The Rave

The Rave method

The thinking behind a referral program that actually compounds.

Most referral programs stall because they're treated as a single feature you switch on. We treat it as four levers you tune in order — here's the method, and why each one matters.

The framework

A healthy referral program has four levers.

We don't guess. Every program we run is tuned against these four levers, in order — get each one right and the next one compounds.

01

Share rate

The proportion of people who could share that actually do — your opt-in rate.

Nothing else matters if no one shares. A high share rate needs a frictionless experience, the right timing, and an incentive that feels like a no-brainer.

  • The link lives natively on the order-confirmation page — present, in the moment, no extra app.
  • We always recommend matching or beating your welcome offer, so the referred friend never hesitates.
  • Cash on the other side means there's no excuse not to share.
Lever 01Sharers ÷ everyone

Get the experience, timing and incentive right and more hands go up.

02

Share virality

Once people share, how far each share travels — one-to-one versus one-to-many.

A single hand-off ends fast. The programs that compound get one person sharing to a crowd — a group chat, a work Slack, an Instagram Story.

  • We plant the seed at onboarding: post it to your Story, drop it in the group chat.
  • Every referred customer gets their own link, so the loop keeps branching outward.
  • Social currency matters — we help you lean into products people are happy to be seen recommending.
Lever 02One → many
1 ravershares once

A Story or a group chat reaches a crowd — one share, many opens.

03

Share conversion

How many of the people who land on a referral link actually buy.

Traffic from a friend is warm, but it still needs a clean path to checkout. Small, well-placed touchpoints are the difference between a click and a sale.

  • Soft nudges sit throughout the referred customer's journey, tuned to lift conversion.
  • We remove the competing pop-ups so the referral offer is the one clear thing to do.
  • When a link gets opened, we can ping the sharer so they can answer questions and close the loop.

We even ping the sharer when their link is opened, so they can follow up.

04

Share frequency

How often the same person shares again — turning one-off sharing into a habit.

Your best advocates should share over and over. That comes from consistent reminders and rewards that get better the more they participate.

  • A standing referral tile at the bottom of every email keeps the program top of mind.
  • Gamified milestones — hit 10 referrals, unlock a bigger bonus — pull people back in.
  • Fresh social proof of people like them earning keeps the behaviour rolling.

The activation point

It all starts on the Shopify thank-you page.

This is the touchpoint that makes everything else work. The moment a shopper checks out, they're automatically turned into an ambassador — link generated, reward set, ready to share. No extra step for them, no admin for you.

  • Zero sign-up friction

Every shopper is enrolled the instant they check out — no separate form, no app to download, no waiting for approval.

  • Caught at peak excitement

The thank-you page is the happiest moment of the journey. That's exactly when people say yes to sharing.

  • Personal link, ready to go

A unique link and a cash offer are generated automatically and shown natively — one tap to share, one tap to copy.

Putting it to work

The method lives in your emails.

The levers are powered by a simple sending rhythm. The emails that win are plain text, in the voice of the founder, and honest about why you're asking.

L

Luke, founder

to you · Subject: I'd rather reward you than Meta

Hey — quick one from me.

We'd much rather put money in the pockets of customers who already know and love what we make than pour another dollar into Facebook and Google ads.

So if you share us with a friend and they buy, we'll pay you cash for it. No catch. Your link's below — thank you, genuinely.

Plain text. Founder's voice. The honest “reward you, not the ad networks” framing consistently outperforms a polished template.

1

The magic moment

One email at delivery

The single best-performing send. Right as the product lands, you've got the delivery high — that's the moment to invite the share.

2

The campaign

A 2–3 email drip

To your whole list: one to introduce the idea, one with social proof to get people excited, and a final friendly nudge.

3

Always on

A tile on every email

A standing referral reminder at the bottom of regular comms keeps the program in front of people without extra work.

See it running on your store.

Live on Shopify in about 15 minutes. Free for 30 days, a small commission only when we drive a sale. There's no downside to trying.

How long does setup take?+

About 15 minutes. The Rave syncs directly to Shopify as an app — no developer needed.

What does it cost?+

The Premium plan is $59/month plus a 2.5% commission only on confirmed referral sales, with a 30-day free trial, no setup fees and no contracts. Larger brands can move to Plus at $199/month for a 1% commission and unlimited programs.

Do I need a developer?+

No. It installs as a Shopify app and runs in the background — nothing to build or maintain.

What rewards can I offer?+

You set them — cash, coupon, or credit. The standard hook is around $20 cashback.

How do payouts work?+

Tracking, fraud detection and payouts are automated. Rewards are held briefly until orders clear, then released.

How do you stop fraud?+

Rewards stay pending until orders clear the approval window, links give clean attribution, self-referrals don't count, and suspicious activity is flagged before payout.
